"One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way" - Frank Smith
Language Day was celebrated at our educational center on April 25, 2024. This year, our students effectively led the activity and, in this article, we will highlight the lessons learned and experiences of that day.
The importance of being bilingual, or even multilingual, is becoming increasingly important in society, as described in the article entitled "Multilingüismo: ¿Cuántos idiomas hay en el mundo?" written by the educational community.
English and Spanish are two languages that have directly impacted our culture as a Latin American community, increasing our relations with English-speaking countries such as the United States, England or Canada. Being bilingual opens doors to places all over the world and, at the same time, to cultures we never imagined existed.
For all these reasons, we celebrate on April 23rd the day of the English and Spanish language, a day declared official for these two languages by the United Nations, since that day, coincidentally, was the date of death of two highly recognized authors and major representatives of these two languages. William Shakespeare, English playwright and poet who delighted us with his fascinating works rich in acting, expression and perfect to be staged, such as Romeo and Juliet or Hamlet. And how can we forget Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Spanish novelist and poet, considered one of the most outstanding figures of Spanish literature, who awakened our taste for reading with works such as Don Quixote de la Mancha. These two authors, and many others, enrich our literature and the language we speak. We, from our day to day, use the language in the simplest of ways such as greeting each other, it is that secret friend that we do not know we have.
HAPPY ENGLISH AND SPANISH LANGUAGE DAY 2024!
